The Islamic Post is the official newspaper of MOA. It has gone through various name changes.
The organization describes itself as “an international newspaper based in New York, NY, that serves as a media channel for The Muslims of America, Inc.. For decades, The Islamic Post has provided an unbiased view of world events, cutting edge news, and a fresh perspective that includes topics of importance to all citizens of the world.”[i]
When the name of the newspaper was Islamic Chronicle, it identified itself as “the official organ of the Fuqra movement.”

]]>KAFS was/is a MOA entity used to build support for the Pakistani and Kashmiri cause against India.
An issue of the MOA’s newspaper from the 1990’s refers to a specific location called the Kashmiri American Friendship Society Center. It said that Suhir A. Ahmed handled the organization’s fundraising. The newspaper documents its holding of an event that included speakers from several mosques including the Islamic Center of Bootan in New Jersey, the Maki Mosque in Brooklyn and the Kashmiri Center of New York.
Although the organization is officially focused on Kashmir, it participated in a rally for Bosnian Muslims in the 1990s that the MOA’s newspaper reported on. It featured MOA Khalifa Yahya Karim, who said that the U.S. endangers its homeland security by not intervening on behalf of Muslims in Bosnia, Palestine, Kashmir, Sri Lanka and elsewhere.
]]>MOA announced the formation of its International Jihad Council in its newspaper in 1982. The objective was to engage in jihad to “oppose religious persecution.” Its purpose was not limited to the jihad in Afghanistan against the Soviets.
An internal MOA document said that the International Jihad Council had branches in Toronto, New York, Washington State, California, Philadelphia and New Jersey.
A 1983 issue of MOA’s newspaper recorded the start of the International Jihad Council and said it was recruiting Muslim fighters from outside of Fuqra, as well.
The first International Jihad Conference happened in Toronto on January 12, 1982. It openly called on Muslims to wage jihad against Russia. MOA says it informed the U.S. government of its intentions so that it would not interfere with its sending of fighters and potential material support (specifically suggesting munitions as an option) from the Pakistani government.
The second conference happened a week later in Jersey City, N.J. The third was held in Washington, D.C. It boasted that the majority of the attendees at its New York City event were supporters of Sheikh Gilani and that its women “were also skilled in weapons.”
A letter to President Bush on March 18, 1990 written by Atiq Shahid of York, S.C. on behalf of MOA informed the President that MOA had declared that jihad against India is obligatory for all able-bodied Muslims and that MOA would be sending support to an organization named the Kashmir Freedom Front.
The letter said that MOA had formed Jihad Conferences in the U.S., Canada and the West Indies (likely referring to Trinidad) to disseminate information about the conflict and deliver unspecified material aid to Kashmir for the fight against India. It requested that visas to Pakistan be granted to its members for a “successful struggle.”
An International Jihad Council document has an image of a gun and knife on it. It states, “the stride of the army, destroy them and give us victory on them.”
The International Jihad Council also had a pledge signed by recruits. It explicitly defines jihad as “holy war” and says it is compulsory of all Muslims to assist it. It does not limit the jihad to a specific battlefield.
“I wish to participate as combatant/noncombatant mujahideen. I shall abide by Gilani’s commands. If I desert, I will be subject to legal proceedings under Islamic law,” it reads.
]]>The Islamberg land was originally linked to a non-profit named Ikhwanul Muslimun, meaning “Muslim Brotherhood.” It was registered as a church on the property in 1974 and MOA leaders were named on its paperwork. It is unclear whether this is a direct link to the Muslim Brotherhood movement, but it is unlikely that such a name would be used for any reason other than affinity for the well-known Islamist movement.[i]
The person who registered Ikhwanul Muslimun on the land that became Islamberg was contacted by the Clarion Project’s Ryan Mauro in April 2012. He said that the entity was inactive and set up a time when African-American Muslims were struggling to form their identity. He said that the organization was now the United Muslim Christian Forum, the name of MOA’s interfaith branch.

]]>The Islamic Post has reported in 2008 that two female members were going to Lahore, Pakistan to become educated at the International Quranic Open University campus and “to explore business opportunities for merchandising through import and exporting training.”
The article said they would purchase rare items including Kashmiri shawls and clothing and Pakistani Islamic garments and various products from the Sindh region and bring the items back to the U.S. to start a new business.[i]
Sheikh Gilani’s wife announced in 1984 that Fuqra/MOA was launching a new magazine for women titled Jazmine. This is the predecessor to a more recent and apparently defunct MOA magazine named Ghazala Magazine.[ii] The managing editor was Syeda Ghazala Shah.

“is a unique body dedicated to the practice of The El Gillani Methodology, or EGM, which was pioneered by El Sheikh Gillani in 1976. EGM is a scientifically proven methodology that utilizes the healing power found in Holy Qur’an to cure so-called incurable diseases.”[ii]

Previously known as Sufic Psychiatric Research Institute and was established as “religious non-profit” with SC Secretary of State 3/16/2009. The people that follow Sufic Science are Sunni and they adhere to Sunni Islam.
The El Gilani Methodology is “scientifically proven to cure so called incurable disease through the use of a standardized system of elected portions of the Holy Quran and other supplications that heal diseases of the mind, body and soul.” The concept basically states that people who suffer from mental illness may simply be possessed by a demon or spirit (called the “jinn”) or the person’s sins have caused them to have this demon possession. They can be cured by means of drug-free alternatives. The “Sufic Scientists” have been given unique prescribed prayers and lines from the Holy Last Messenger. The Sufic Science Journal details a lot of what the group believes and some “case studies” have been practiced domestically and abroad.
The Abdul Qadir Gilani Institute of Sufi Science, with the support of the International Quranic Open University (IQOU), commissioned a dynamic delegation to attend the 43rd annual Citizen’s Commission Human Rights (CCHR) Award Dinner located in Los Angeles, California. The IQOU and the CCHR had been working together for some time even before the event took place. Gilani wrote the book The Ultimate Fraud of Freudists. Gilani included an abridged version if Psychiatry: The Ultimate Betrayal that had been written by CCHR’s National President Bruce Wiseman.
The delegate from IQOU also had a three day tour that included a brief speaking engagement before the CCHR advisory board. In addition to attending the prestigious human rights awards banquet, the delegation will commence a three-day tour, to include a brief speaking engagement before the CCHR advisory board. “We hope this tour will be a great step in dispelling myths and disseminating information about the El Gilani Methodology and its proven ability to heal incurable diseases,” expresses the Honorable Hussein Adams, IQOU Chief Executive. The video includes an offer from Gilani to provide guerrilla warfare training to Muslims, including those outside of MOA.[27]
Law enforcement seized about 50 membership applications to join the SOA from MOA’s Colorado branch in 1992.
MOA-affiliated sources say that SOA still exists and consists of the most devoted and trained members who live on and off the camps.
